Meet Judge Bowie

Judge Jeremy Darnell Bowie was born and raised in Herrington Hills in the city of Pontiac. He is a graduate of Pontiac Northern High School. Judge Bowie graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Art in Political Science-Prelaw. After graduating from Michigan State University, Judge Bowie lived in the District of Columbia where he worked in the United States Senate for Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) and in The White House for the President Barack Obama administration. Judge Bowie returned to Michigan and enrolled in the Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, MI. He earned his Juris Doctor in May of 2015. 

Judge Bowie worked for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office in March of 2016. He prosecuted misdemeanor and felony domestic violence cases at the 36th District Court and the Third Circuit Court both in Detroit, MI. Judge Bowie was known for his tenacity, his litigation acumen, and his ability to command the attention of the jury. He enjoyed working on behalf of the victims of domestic violence he encountered during his time at the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. Judge Bowie resigned and entered private practice with his last job being with The Perkins Law Group, PLLC in Detroit, MI. While at Perkins Law Group, he oversaw the legal research and writing of state and federal cases. Additionally, Judge Bowie also represented clients in state and federal criminal cases across the United States. 

On December 14, 2022, Judge Bowie was appointed to the 50th Judicial District Court in Pontiac, Michigan by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. He presides over civil, criminal, landlord-tenant, and small claims cases.

Judge Bowie has the intelligence, character, integrity, legal experience, and passion for public service that undoubtedly qualifies him for the 50th District Court. He has experience on both sides of the criminal justice system as a prosecutor and defense attorney at the state and federal level. 

His commitment to the Pontiac community and passion for helping others goes beyond the walls of the courthouse. He dedicates his evenings and weekends during the school year to mentoring students at the International Technology Academy in Pontiac, MI. He is a mentor on the Wings of Fire (Team 51), a FIRST Robotics Competition Team. Additionally, Judge Bowie sits on nonprofit boards and has participated in various community events such as expungement and warrant clinics. 

Judge Jeremy Darnell Bowie is a member of the Association of Black Judges of Michigan, Wolverine Bar Association, D. Augustus Straker Bar Association, Oakland County Bar Association, Oakland County Bar Foundation (Fellow), Michigan District Judges Association, and the Oakland County District Judges Association. Judge Bowie was selected to The National Black Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 in 2022 and 2023. Additionally, he was selected to the class of 2023 Oakland County Executive’s Oakland Together Top 40 Under 40.
